CSULB Department of Dance faculty and staff stand in solidarity with our diverse student population and commit ourselves to creating a space where artists of diverse backgrounds and experiences are empowered to fulfill their artistic and educational goals. To do so, we must first acknowledge the invisibilization and systematic exclusion of certain bodies from U.S. dance history and our institutions of higher education. We commit ourselves to dismantling racist, ableist, and gender-specific structures and to creating policies and procedures that are anti-discriminatory, just, and humane as we continue the work of creating aesthetic equity in our curriculum, audition practices, pedagogies, and hiring practices. We acknowledge expertise in historically marginalized fields in higher education may well be developed outside of the institution and encourage those without terminal degrees (ex. MFA, PhD) to apply.
